As Field Operations Co-Director, Sam acquires and organizes materials for workshops and oversees preparations for VOG installations. His efforts ensure that our projects run smoothly and help maximize our impact on the community and environment.
Sam is a fourth generation native to Sarasota, Florida. He was raised on the water and grew up racing sailboats at the sailing squadron, and what is now known as the Pelican Cove Sailing Club. There he developed his love for the bay and all it has to provide. Sam currently lives in Sarasota with his wife, Catherine and daughter, Kennedy.
Sam graduated from the University of South Florida in 2019 with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science and Policy, as well as minoring in both history and film. After college, Sam continued his passion as a rental manager and machine operator at Bayfront Marina on Siesta Key. After years of experience working as a dockhand and manager, he developed his knowledge of both boating and machinery marina operations, how to navigate the intercostal waterways, and developed an understanding of how to create a safe work environment that coexists with natural marine life.
When Sam is not on the water, playing with his daughter and dogs, or drilling oyster shells, he owns and operates his own glass and mirror company (SK Glass) with his business partner Kyle. He fabricates and installs high end shower doors, wine enclosures, table tops, mirrors, and much more. Sam has found a passion for creating elegant and unique glass projects while building relationships with local residents and contractors.
Working with the Oyster Boys has provided Sam with a new passion and driving force for restoring and protecting his home.
Why did you join OBC?
I joined OBC to put to use my degree and to help an organization with a mission that I could get behind and support. I find my background would be beneficial to helping OBC achieve any goal they set out to achieve.
What do you love most about what OBC is doing?
What I love the most about OBC's mission is the their drive to improve water quality in the bay, while including the community in their efforts. From schools to retirement homes, and dirty events to banquets, OBC is there making a name for themselves and getting their goals across to anyone that will listen.
How can OBC change the world?
OBC can change the world by being an example of how every little event, goal or idea can be transformed into something great. It takes a lot of effort and a great team, but if OBC can build the foundation then the benefits will compound from there.
What's your favorite quote?
“If you think the price of winning is too high, wait until you get the bill from regret.”
