VOG Installations

VOG Installation Process

Old oyster shells tell a new story: one of cleaner water and a coastal comeback. VOGs give community members the chance to support healthier waterways and marine habitats right in their own backyard. With just a few simple steps, you can plan a VOG install and be part of a growing coastal conservation movement.

1. Virtual Dock Assessment

WHAT:

Our Field Operations team now begins with a FREE virtual Dock Assessment to evaluate your dock for potential Vertical Oyster Garden (VOG) placement. Using photos and satellite imagery, we estimate how many VOGs your dock can reasonably support and identify the best placement.

HOW:

To get started, please provide the address of the dock you'd like us to assess. We'll begin with a virtual review using satellite imagery and any photos you can share. If you decide to move forward with installation, a member of our Field Operations team will schedule a brief site visit to take final measurements. If the dock is privately owned, please ensure it will be accessible at the time of the visit.

COST:

We work on a variable pricing model based on the size and scope of each project. For individual installations, we suggest a donation of $10 per Vertical Oyster Garden (VOG). This amount reflects the value of each VOG, which includes support for our shell recycling program, installation labor, travel expenses, materials, and the long-term environmental impact. These components are essential to the sustainable, community-driven mission of our work in Sarasota Bay.

2. Installation Preparations

WHAT:
After your dock is assessed, we’ll begin preparing for installation by coordinating logistics, confirming the number of VOGs to be installed, and ensuring all materials are ready to go. This step helps us streamline the process so Install Day is quick and smooth.

HOW:
A member of our team will reach out to schedule your installation and review basic details like dock access, tides, and placement preferences. We’ll bring all the materials needed—no prep required on your end! If you have any questions or want to be involved in the process, we’re happy to walk you through what to expect.

3. Install Day

WHAT:
On Install Day, our team will arrive to set up your VOGs. With everything prepped, we’ll handle the installation quickly and efficiently, ensuring your VOGs are securely placed and ready to start improving the water and creating habitat.

HOW:
Our team will meet at the scheduled time and complete the installation. While you're welcome to be present, it's not necessary for you to attend. We’ll review the VOG placement, complete the install, and answer any final questions you may have. The process usually takes just under an hour depending on the quantity of VOGs. If weather or tides impact the timing, we’ll keep you informed and reschedule as needed.
